Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do I prepare for my visit?
A. Please eat a small meal prior to your appointment to support your body's energy. Wear loose-fitting clothes that can be easily rolled up or moved to expose areas of the body that need to be needled. If you are unable to change before coming in, you can undress to your comfort level, we provide sheets and blankets to cover you.
Q. Does Acupuncture hurt?
A. Most people do not feel the needles. The therapeutically desirable sensations are feelings of heaviness, warmth or coldness, a dull ache, and gentle energy sensations.
Q. How long does the appointment last?
A. Each return visit lasts approximately one hour but could take longer depending on your individial needs. New patient visits take closer to 90 minutes.
Q. How often will I need to come?
A. Acupuncture has a cumulative impact. Consistent sessions over time lead to a progressively greater and more sustained therapeutic effect. Coming in twice a week for the first few weeks is ideal. After four to six treatments most acute patients reduce to once a week, then monthly, and when no longer symptomatic only come in for maintenance care. Chronic patients may need closer to ten or more visits before reducing to biweekly or monthly.
We want every patient to find a place of health where they only need to come in seasonally for preventative care.
